The Antidote to Fear

Day 52 of the Coronavirus in France

Day 1 of enforced containment

Knowledge is freedom from fear. The response is not to panic, but to prepare and take precautions. God created our bodies with the capacity to anticipate danger to save our lives like when you run into a bear in the forest. It’s time to act.

I’ll expound on this later. The neuroscience behind fear and more on the antidote to fear. I’ll also share my infamous metaphor of phycocyanine’s ability to regenerate cells.

At 7 am this morning we all got a text message from the government reassuring that Pharmacies, Doctor’s offices, and Grocery stores are all that remain open after noon. We have been given a pass to print out and sign, officially declaring the nature of the necessary outing that we will need to carry with should we need to leave the house.

We ate leftovers from yesterday evening’s meal for breakfast this morning as we seek to eat nutrient rich foods at every meal.

Subscriptions to entertainment venues outside the home are not issuing bills this month. Home media entertainment is offering free services to every home. Internet companies are installing extra towers to keep up with the load.

On Sunday we had scheduled our next grocery pick up to be Thursday. Today looking at the food in the house we realize we probably could have waited longer. The contagion has spread fast and we haven’t even hit the peak. We’re debating whether to cancel and go without those items and risk needing to go out later in the crisis. Or do we ration food and just live off of what we have and never leave the house. I’m leaning toward the later and I hope South Korea has some wisdom for me to learn from.

I need to disconnect from the internet for a while. You’ll forgive me.

While I’m disconnecting, in my house, with my family, be good researchers and check your sources. The information is all out there.

Oh, and before I go… People start feeling ill in 2 to 5 days, with an average incubation period of 3 days, but varying between regions. (source) Take your temperature, breathe deeply, count the days since your last exposure, and meditate on the Bible.

Sleep is increasing difficult. As protocol changes every day we are constantly solicited by those around us seeking counsel and comfort. After twenty conversations in one day it’s hard to rest. When I lay my head on the pillow I hear their concerned voices. As my brain slows down it sees into their hearts and words come to me that I wish I had said. Push out circular thinking. If you genuinely have something you absolutely must say, write it down and let the notepad remember it so that you can relieve your brain from the burden of remembering it and replaying it. All non productive thoughts are to be banished. Remember that sleep is a learned activity. Develop your own personalized multi-faceted approach: physical health, sleeping environment, individualized sleep ritual, and spiritual/emotional/psychological preparation. I find great hope in meditating eternal truths from the Bible. Here is my compilation of sleep resources, may they bring rest to your home.

The story continues in my Coronavirus log here.
