This is war

Day 51 of the Coronavirus in France (part 1)

I’m furious. I’m mad at the virus for existing. I’m mad at the people who still go to work with no respect for the lives already lost in this war let alone the bloodshed that is about to happen.

It has come to our attention that e-learning is unrealistic while families are home with the flu. When things explode we go through a phase where you are consumed with getting updates from loved ones. You think of nothing else, you talk of nothing else, no other occupation has meaning. Prepare busy bags and activities today while you’re healthy, because your kids will have lots of energy while you are riding out your flu. Use supplies you have around the house. Get creative. DON’T GO OUT.

The people on the streets are oblivious to the fact that the hospital is filled. They don’t see the dying gasping for breath. All they see is sunshine and birds singing. They keep circulating like nothing is going on. Leaving your house is SPEEDING up the virus.

The French government is going to wait until the hospitals are filled before they close the borders. They don’t understand exponential growth. The day the hospital is full the number of people declaring sickness doubles every two days. (For real science terms look up Tomas Pueyo’s math.)

This is war. If bullets were whizzing down the street you wouldn’t dash through them just for fun, cinéma, or playdates. Take up your arms and sit on your couch.

To anyone who will listen. You have to stay inside or people die. Not just people who had a disease that would have taken their life this year anyhow. That is a lie. More than 50% of serious conditions needing intensive care are under 60 years of age. (source)

I’m furious. It’s gut wrenching. Read what is going on in Italy. Triage at the door of the hospital to decide which patients get treatment and which are sent home to die. “Many of us were too selfish to follow suggestions to change our behavior. Now we’re in lockdown and people are needlessly dying.” (source)

This is not a ten day flu. China eased one restriction and the world, desperate for hope, throws caution to the wind. In China they still declare new cases every day. They still can’t travel freely between regions. Going on 51 days. (source)

And when you’re staying home you discover that before lock-down you were already in contact with the virus, so it’s only a matter of days before you are home sick with the flu. Those are the lucky ones. Plan good nutritious food, easy to fix meals. If you have energy at the beginning prepare meals to freeze or can for future use.

At the end of all of this we are going to declare a day of mourning for the lost and celebration of life and freedom for the survivors. That day will become a new national holiday commemorating our selfishness because we had to get in one more day of work.

I never meant to become an activist. China happened so fast they were collecting data. By the time France got hit we had already seen countries attempt different methods, Taiwan, Italy. So I was well placed to see the neighbors mocking the recommendations, making light of the masks. And now I’m furious, that must be what fuels activists. Read the stories of Taiwan and Italy stay one step ahead of the government. Stay home and inundated your friends and politicians with step-by-step instructions on how to win the war. Stay out of the path of the bullets and encourage those around you to choose life for their fellow townspeople .

360 people died in Italy in the last 24 hours. In 24 hours. (source)

STAY HOME. It has never been simpler to save lives.

The story continues in my Coronavirus log here.
